2. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and 1/3 cup of the granulated sugar until thick and lemon-colored.

3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
